OVERVIEW
Symmetric Designs has launched L.U.B.S. (Lateral Upper Body Supports) in select countries. L.U.B.S. provides lateral trunk support for wheelchair users who experience postural challenges affecting the upper body, helping to maintain a more upright and symmetrical seated position throughout the day.
WHO IT IS DESIGNED FOR
L.U.B.S. is intended for individuals who require external support to stabilise their trunk, particularly those with reduced core strength or postural tone. This includes people living with cerebral palsy, ALS, spinal cord injury, muscular dystrophy, and other neuromuscular or neurological conditions. Lateral trunk supports are a standard component of complex seating systems, and L.U.B.S. is designed to work within those systems alongside other Symmetric Designs products.
DESIGN AND COMPATIBILITY
Symmetric Designs has developed the dedicated mounting hardware, including the planar mount, to integrate the system cleanly onto a Respira back support, but the system is also compatible with most standard wheelchairs, making it suitable for use in a broad range of seating prescriptions.
The lateral pads are adjustable in position and angle, allowing clinicians to fine-tune the support to the individual user's trunk shape and postural needs. As with other Symmetric Designs products, L.U.B.S. is intended to be fitted and prescribed by qualified seating clinicians.
