New Fixed Adjustable Hardware for Free Form Back Support

OVERVIEW

Symmetric Designs has introduced Fixed Adjustable (FA) Mounting Hardware for the Free Form Back Support System. The new hardware option expands the mounting configurations available for Free Form, giving clinicians and dealers more flexibility when specifying back support setups across different wheelchair frames.

ABOUT FREE FORM

Free Form is Symmetric Designs' custom-mouldable wheelchair back support. The back shell is shaped directly to the user's torso using a heat-activated moulding process, creating a personalised contour that distributes pressure more evenly than off-the-shelf alternatives. It is widely used by seating specialists working with clients who have complex positioning needs, including those with scoliosis, pelvic obliquity, or asymmetric trunk tone.

WHAT FIXED ADJUSTABLE HARDWARE ADDS

The FA Hardware provides a stable, fixed-angle connection point between the Free Form shell and the wheelchair's canes or frame, while still allowing a meaningful range of angular adjustment during setup and fitting. Unlike fully dynamic hardware, the FA mount is designed to be set in position and remain there, making it well-suited to users whose positioning needs are established and stable, and for situations where a secure, non-shifting connection is clinically preferred.

The new hardware gives clinicians a mid-point option between rigid fixed mounts and fully adjustable systems, which is useful when a user's posture is well-established but minor angular corrections are still needed during initial fitting.
