OVERVIEW
Symmetric Designs has expanded the Free Form Back Kit size range, adding three new widths:
12–14", 20–22", and 22–24".
This expansion makes the Free Form system accessible to a wider population of wheelchair users, including smaller adults, children, and larger individuals who were previously underserved by the existing size range.

ABOUT FREE FORM BACK KITS
Free Form Back Kits provide the components needed for clinicians to custom-mould a Free Form back support directly to a client. The kit includes the back shell, mounting hardware interface, and the materials needed for the heat-moulding process. Because each back is shaped to the individual, the shell size is a starting point, the moulding process creates the personalised fit.
The kit format is designed for use by trained seating clinicians and rehabilitation therapists who can perform the moulding procedure in a clinical or home setting. It is well suited to complex seating assessments and equipment trials.
WHAT THE NEW SIZES ENABLE
The addition of the 12–14" width opens Free Form to paediatric clients and smaller adults, a population that has historically had fewer options for custom-moulded back supports. At the other end, the 20–22" and 22–24" widths extend coverage to larger individuals, ensuring that the benefits of custom moulding are available regardless of body size.
A wider size range also reduces the need for clinical compromise, where a close-but-not-right size was previously selected because the ideal size wasn't available. Therapists can now select the starting shell that best matches their client's dimensions before moulding begins.
